Ghost Hunt
One of you is the ghost.
A ghost is haunting the house — and it's one of the players. Search the rooms for three nights, compare who felt a chill, then vote the ghost out.
How to play
- 1One player is secretly the ghost. Everyone else is a hunter.
- 2Each night everyone secretly picks one of eight rooms, the ghost included.
- 3At dawn you see where everyone was. Hunters who shared a room with the ghost feel a chill, and only they know it.
- 4Talk it over out loud: hunters can tell the truth or bluff about their chills, and the ghost can pretend to have felt one.
- 5After three nights everyone votes. Catch the ghost with a clear top vote and the hunters win; a tie or a wrong accusation lets the ghost win.
How to play Ghost Hunt online
Ghost Hunt is a hidden-role party game for three to ten players. A ghost is haunting the house, and it's one of you. Everyone secretly picks a room each night. The ghost haunts one, and any hunters who picked the same room feel a chill. Compare notes, work out who it is, and vote.
Create a room, share the code and have everyone join from their own phone. Your role and your chills are private, shown only on your own screen. The talking happens out loud, in the room or over a call, which is the whole point.
Short on players? The host can fill empty seats with computer players, which pick rooms and vote.
Ghost Hunt rules in full
- One player is chosen at random to be the ghost. Everyone else is a ghost hunter. Only you can see your own role.
- The house has eight rooms. Each night, everyone secretly picks one, the ghost included. You can change your pick until everybody has chosen. Anyone who hasn't picked when the timer runs out is sent to a random room.
- At dawn everyone sees where everyone else was. A hunter who was in the ghost's room feels a chill, and only that hunter is told. The ghost never feels one.
- Chills can be shared or hidden: hunters can tell the truth or bluff, and the ghost can pretend to have felt one.
- After three nights, everyone votes for who they think the ghost is. You can't vote for yourself.
- If one player has more votes than anybody else and it's the ghost, the hunters win. A tied vote or a wrong accusation lets the ghost win.
Tips for winning at Ghost Hunt
- As a hunter, mix up your rooms. If you always go to the same one, the ghost knows where to avoid you or find you.
- A chill narrows it down: the ghost is one of the other people who were in your room that night. Two chills in different nights can point at one person.
- As the ghost, being alone in a room gives nobody a chill, but it also tells people you weren't with them.
- Claim a chill only if you're ready to be questioned about who was with you.
Ghost Hunt questions
- How many players do you need for Ghost Hunt?
- Between three and ten. With three players there's one ghost and two hunters.
- Can the ghost see who feels a chill?
- No. Only each hunter knows whether they were chilled. The ghost has to work it out from what people say.
- What happens if the vote is tied?
- The ghost wins. The hunters need a clear top vote on the right player.
- Do we need to be in the same room?
- No, but you do need a way to talk, like a call or a group chat, because most of the game is discussion.
