Four New Halloween Games: Ghost Hunt, Haunted Words, Pumpkin Patch and Trick or Treat
Four new games for October, from a hidden-ghost party game to a candy race for the youngest trick-or-treaters.
Halloween is two weeks away, so we've added four games built for it. They run in the same rooms as everything else: one person creates a room, everyone else joins from their own phone with the code, and nobody needs an account. The site has also put on its Halloween colours for the season.
For a room of adults: Ghost Hunt
Ghost Hunt is a hidden-role game for three to ten players. One of you is secretly the ghost. Each night everyone picks a room of the haunted house, and any hunter who picked the same room as the ghost feels a chill, which only they get to know. After three nights you talk it out and vote. It's a game about who you believe, so it works best when people are in the same room or on a call. There's a full guide in how to play Ghost Hunt.
For word lovers: Haunted Words
Haunted Words is Hangman with a spooky word bank and seven candles instead of a gallows. Everyone guesses together, one letter per turn, and every wrong letter snuffs a candle. It's co-op and quiet, which makes it a good pick while people are still arriving. See how to play Haunted Words for tips.
For the whole family: Pumpkin Patch and Trick or Treat
Pumpkin Patch is a memory game with pumpkins, ghosts, bats and spiders, and one cursed pair that costs you a point if you match it. Trick or Treat is a race down a haunted street where you roll a die, collect candy, hit bonus rolls and try not to land on a trick. Neither needs reading, so a five-year-old can play with a teenager. See the posts on Pumpkin Patch and Trick or Treat.
A Halloween night running order
- Before trick-or-treating: Trick or Treat with the kids, since a game takes about ten minutes.
- Candy-sorting time: Pumpkin Patch, which survives being paused.
- While guests arrive: Haunted Words, which works for any number of people.
- Once the party's loud: Ghost Hunt, or Bomb Pass for a bigger crowd.
