New Year's Eve has an odd constraint for a game night: a hard deadline. You need games that start quickly, finish quickly, and don't leave anyone in the middle of a match at midnight. Here's how to fill the hours before the countdown.

Games that fit around a countdown

• Bomb Pass — 3 to 20 players, one tap, and a round lasts 15 to 45 seconds. It's easy to stop after any round.
• Word Scramble — up to 8 players, eight words per game, and everyone plays at once. A whole game takes 5 to 10 minutes.
